OPERATION CHILL-OUT

Donated items are collected through Operation Chillout and distributed to local agencies all year long. The demand really grows as winter comes and temperatures start to drop.

With a lot of help from church members and huge donations from the public and a few businesses, Operation Chill-Out distributed an estimated two tractor trailer loads of blankets and other linen supplies to eighteen different agencies in the Kansas City area in 2009, and our efforts only continued growing throughout 2010.

Because of the kindness of the people of our church, what started with a goal of collecting 1,000 blankets for Micah Ministries has grown into a huge ministry that keeps Kansas City warm.

Operation Chill-Out accepts donations of the the following items through out the entire year: blankets, coats, hats, gloves, etc...

These items are then distributed to local agencies throughout the Kansas City area that provide support to the homeless or those who are in immediate need.

Contact the church office at 816-229-8400 if you have donations.

FREEZIN FOR A REASON

Freezin’ for a Reason is a weekend where members of First Christian Church of Blue Springs sleep out in a make shift homeless shelter on the front lawn of the church. The structures are built from salvaged materials such as wood pallets, plywood, cardboard and plastic tarps. We use no electricity and our only heat source are fire barrels. We collect donations of blankets, warm hats and gloves from the public all weekend and attempt to raise the awareness of homelessness in Kansas City. This event started in 2007 and is traditionally held on the 2nd full weekend in January.star
